Hello Darklings,
I feel so sleepy, the weather seems to have "sucked me dry" although it's cooler outside than inside the house, but I just feel and if I want to hibernate for years.
It has to be the weather or maybe the stresses I've been having.
I did get some good news, Mrs. plumber, my plumber's wife called and had two good pieces of information.
1. Her husband is doing fine, no infection, but they are going to keep him in the hospital for another day or two, but because of his type of work they are insisting he rest for 6 weeks. Well I'm glad he's going to be well.
2. My plumber has a brother who is also a licensed plumber and said he could finish the job for him, he and I talked and he was apologetic, he's tied up finishing another job but will be able to take on mine next Monday. For some reason I heard a very faint rendition of the Lone Ranger theme, a plumbing hero is coming to the rescue.
Doyle recommended we use plastic forks and paper plates and cups, until the sink is fixed.
Well I told him not for the coffee and tea cups, I'm willing to drink wine out of a paper cup but not my coffee, but Doyle has also suggested we get take out, and I agree, at least I won't have to tackle the pots and pans and then bail out the sink.
We can do it. And we can deal with it. But I cannot use the dish washer or washing machine until that connection is replaced. Oh well. Tomorrow---The Laundromat!!!
At least we can take baths and showers so all is not lost.
Doyle suggested that we eat outside in the back garden and take advantage of the breeze, for dinner, I certainly am all for that.
And he made a suggestion to me after he gets well----He said "How would you like to take a couple of days and stay in Bodega Bay where Hitchcock filmed "The Birds", he showed me this web site for Bodega Bay Lodge. Oh Darklings it looks so wonderful and romantic, dining, a spa, ocean views, nearby historic locations, a few wineries.
I was all for it, so now depending upon how well he'll be we'll go either end of September or Mid-October, for several days, take advantage of the spa, the wineries, seeing the historic sights and just relaxing as well.
My man with the beat up almost Bogart face, being romantic even with his medical problem. What more could an elder Goth Female ask for.

Of a Family intervention and "Rear Window"~~~
Hello Darklings,
First seeing Hitchcock's "Rear Window" on the full size screen is just wonderful, you can see all the little nuances that Hitchcock was injecting into the movie, I could almost determine what material Grace Kelly's green and off white suit was made from (either a linen or a nubby worsted silk) and to see clearly the patterns on the materials, the subtle expressions on the actors. If any of you Darklings has a theater that shows classic films you Must see Hitchock's films on the big screen.
The last time I saw one of his films this way was "North by Northwest", the part when Cary Grant in a drunken stupor is trying to drive down the road way becomes harrowing, and when the bi-plane attacks him is far more frightening. I can understand now why some people have to have those big screen plasma t.v.'s I just don't want it to dominate my room and my life.
And why oh why can't young ladies and actressess model their gowns the way Grace Kelly modeled in the movie, Edith Head's creations. They way they stand and pose now a days is horrible and not gracefull at all.
This week Doyle wants to see John Wayne in "The Searchers" well why not, he humors me so I should humor him.
Now the Sunday family intervention....Well Darklings, we had the boys (including my brother) sit down in the living room and they were informed that as part of their punishment they could not see either the Raiders or 49er's games or anything else that day that was sports orientened.....trust me it was very painful for them, espeically my brother, it could not even be recorded.
First Coralline in a very well thought out and carefully written speech sited her grievances, the torments she'd been through, how unhappy and miserable her brother's with their father's silent permission has made her life miserable, her mother had to listen to that as well as Coralline said that because of the overwhelming demands of the boys her mother became an accomplise by not laying down the law. This included vacations, weekends, holidays, and even evenings when there was no homework.
Then Coralline's mother spoke, she acknowledge her complicity without using parental guidance or acting as mediator between everyone, but also told her husband and sons what she was very upset with and angry with them.
Sis and I then spoke and told them how much Coralline desires to come to my house and be with us because of all the misery that her brothers with the unknowing assistance of their father has put her through and that if they continue it would lead to Coralline cutting her brothers out of her life forever and that the testoserone attitude has got to stop because Coralline's needs were Not being met because everything was given over to the boys, including the biggest boy, our brother. It has to stop because they were BULLIES, and they were bullying their own sister, and it makes them unfit for society.
All 4 of us said there has to be boundaries, and those boundaries and compromises were not being met, if they want an all male house hold, Coralline and her Mother were going to move out and come live with me. There would be a divorce (I know that sounds drastic but Coralline's Mother had to wake them all up)
Sis and I said we would back up Monica our sister-in-law.
Monica said to the boys they got only a taste of their own medicine which they had be treating Coralline to for nearly 7 years, even invading her personal santurary her own bedroom which they Knew was off limits, so how did they like being invaded. One of the twins said they didn't know Coralline could handle a snake and Coralline said if she could have gotten a real trantula she would have, it is no problem to handle one safely.
That made them open their eyes about what Coralline could do, even my brother admitted it had been getting out of hand, but it is now at an end, no more pranks or jokes, no more teasing, no more making things miserable for their sister.
Now rules are in place and if anyone brakes those rules and this included my brother, there would be a serious reprisal, there is also going to be compromises, it's not going to be all sports but other things and if it was something that the boys really were not going to enjoy (like the ballet) then it would be something for Coralline and her Mother or her Aunts would do together. The boys could do chores.
Coralline said she really hated sports, all sports, she saw no sense to guys butting their heads, or long dragging times waiting for someone to hit a ball, even basket ball or ice hockey, it didn't make sense just to be violent and agreesive, espeically after the serious beating of one fan and the death of another.
She said she could understand competition like high jump, pole vaulting, and such but to her it did not engage her mind and her mind found it boring to watch, she preferred something which she could learn from, and as an example we all watched a Nova program about the newly revealed secrets of Stonehenge, which did get the boys talking and Coralline being the expert filled them in, Sis and I even said that one could see Saturn last night, Doyle had brought his telescope which he has used for survalence and we had an excellent view of Saturn through it.
The boys kept taking turns trying to see it and it became more immediate to them, something that was only in books or films now became real. (Amazing what a planet with rings can do).
Coralline even pointed out using a pin point flash light the Big Dipper, and Orion.
My brother told us that from now on he's going to take the kids to places were they will all be interested in and less sports, espeically after Monica said she was afraid of them getting seriously injured and pointed out numerous articles about sports injuries to young teens and pre-teens.
She also pointed out that the cost of tickets, parking, food etc. was becoming too expensive and the boys espeically the oldest were going to need braces, which is an expensive situation and it is as she said 'a need to be done' not a 'want' to fulfill personal desires. She also pointed out other things in which the cost to do or maintain has gone up and they were going to have to do some serious cut backs.
The money aspect did hit home with our brother.
My brother said that he would like the boys to be in good shape, Monica said there were other things that could be done that didn't necessairly involve butting heads or climbing rocks and gave a list.
Coralline likes swimming and ballet excerises, she does not like performing on stage though and she enjoys hikes through historic areas and forests etc as long as it is not a forced march.
My brother could see swimming and hiking for the boys---no ballet though, historic places that are open and right now State run would be very good.
But one of the things we all will be doing next weekend is going to the Haunted houses of the Pirates of Emerson, it will be expensive but it will be fun for all. I'll just have to wear tennis shoes and jeans. I mean 6 yes Darklings, 6 haunted houses I could really like that.
All in all reviewing what happened last night I felt went very well, it was a shock to the boys, but they did admit they did not want any more snakes or expecting a live spider, and the oldest doesn't want his bed to collapse again, not that they ever did that bed collapsing to Coralline but they did discover that she can be very serious and devious in her "revenge" tatics. Coralline said that she is still keeping her bedroom locked, she doesn't trust them yet and she is putting together a list of devious plots if they should ever do anything again----with her Mother's permission.
By the way the garter snake was returned safe and sound to its owner a neighborhood boy who owns several snakes, he loaned it to Coralline, I think he's got a little crush on her, because she did ask if we could bring him with us to the Haunted Houses.

Of a Spooky hunt weekend~~~~
Yes My Darklings,
I did not post the entire weekend! Shame on me, but I had a very good reason.
We had Coralline for the entire weekend, her Dad (my brother) dropped her off at my work, and since I went in early that Day (Friday the 13th) I left early.
But Friday was not all fun and games, I had to do some grocery shopping, and we went to our nearest Safeway, I know Darklings, Safeway how mundane, well they do offer things that one can't get at Trader Joe's which was right next door, so we shopped there too.
But Coralline spotted them at Safeway, yes, in purple and black and black and orange, salad plates and serving platters and dip trays all done in skulls, bats and cats with a few spiders thrown in for good measure, so we bought a set for 6 (just in case a guest or two), and the serving platters were a good idea as well.
And we spotted doggie sweaters with skulls just in Belladonna's size, so we bought 2 because they do wear out, Coralline was so happy to have the weekend with us, just to get away from her 3 stooge brothers, but I told her she had homework that needed to be done.
I did promise her we'd do shopping on Saturday if she did her homework right, so as quickly as we could we went home and while I prepared dinner she started her assignments, math, a review of a chapter in her history book, and she needed to read a poem and analize it for her english assignment, I asked her which poem and she said Robert Frost the one about the snowy woods, I knew immediately which one she referred to. I suggested she do her math first, then history, then we'll talk about the poem.
Since we were home early, I did an oven pot roast, using the timer to remind me when to check it, and then prepared the salad, chilling it, and put the veggies to one side to cook the last 15 minutes along with the rice to serve with it. Doyle pleaded with me to have rice, so easy anyway.
Then we went over her homework, espeically about the Robert Frost poem, she knew that the person in the poem was sad but what was it about, I told her that the person in the poem was thinking of taking his own life, things seems so bad to him, it was a question of which road should he take, but the presence of the horse brought him back to reality and practicallity and that he had to endure tough times, just as his horse had to plow through the snow, the horse shaking its head was saying "come on snap out of it". So we went over it line by line with her realizing what each line meant. Especially the last line "the woods are lovely dark and deep, but I have miles to go before I sleep" I told Coralline that when life seems bad or difficult to not give up that is what the last line means.
Coralline liked that and wrote that down in her paper, which she had to re-write checking her spelling, which she did at her little desk.
Dinner then with Doyle, Sis, Coralline and Brian who needed a home cooked meal, and we relaxed watching "Perry Mason and the Case of the Avenging Ace" So retro and so much fun.
Doyle surprised Sis and I with some new wines, The Diving Rod Cabernet Sauvignon and their Chardonnay and a bit of a surprise Once Upon a Vine's Big Bad Red Blend, and the Charming Pinot Noir, well he bought 3 of the latter, I was surprised by these new additions, but Doyle said the Pinot Noir is good relaxing wine and the others were recommended to him by a friend who knows wine. So they have been added.
I chased Coralline to bed because we were going to have a busy day Saturday, she had an assignment to go to this place called "Playland Not At the Beach" and do a writting assignment of her immpression of the place, as a matter of fact everyone had an assignment in which either Saturday or Sunday they were to go to a place that they drew out of the box----the parents knew of this and agreed to take their child to whatever place they drew, my brother warned me about this and told me that no where was he going to have the 3 monsters near a place that had antique displays.
I found it to be fasinating with displays of antique games and devices, moving train type displays, opitcal illusions, hints of an old fashion 10 in 1 Bally show, and they had a magician performing as well, it seems that it can be booked for birthday parties for children or adults, I believe they have a web site, it was all too much to take in but Coralline was enchanted by it, so I made a note for us to go back perhaps with her friend Marissa.
When we got home she started her paper right away, but afterwards I suggested that she nap since she wanted to watch Svengoolie present "The Phatom of the Opera" the 1940's color verison with Nelson Eddy
and Susanna Foster (and yes Darklings gowns by Vera West).
Coralline snuggled with me and Belladonna on the couch on one end Sis on the other and Doyle in his recliner snoozing, never have I seen the color in the costumes used to such advantage by West, one of her few color productions, and even the Opera house set that was used in the original Lon Chaney Sr.'s Phantom was beautiful almost an actor in its self, Foster's and Eddy's voices sounded beautiful even if the so called opera's were never really written, in the end Coralline felt sorry for the Phantom, it was not really a horror story but a tragic love tale. But she laughed when both the Inspector and the Baritone were left behind as the heroine was swept away by her admirerers, she looked at me and said "I guess she preferred her career, I think I would too." I could only smile, I too perferred my career as well, and even with Doyle I have not given it up.
Sunday I was to take her home so we made sure all her homework was packed and in the trunk of the car, and then after a relaxing breakfast at home, we went to THE SPIRIT STORE near the house. There she helped me choose things for the outside displays and some fun things for indoors for the Halloween party, such as books that have spiders jumping out, flowers that wilted, but she wanted for her room at my house this wonderful candlelabra we also stopped at Beverly's to see what they had and she found a blackbird or raven sitting on top of a white pumpkin with the words "beware" on it and another with an owl and the words spooky, they were small enough to be paperweights so we bought them for her desk at the house.
And there were these craft things with ghosts and skulls and other spooky items to use to make a shadow box, but she wanted them for her Draculina Doll house to decorate with, so why not thought I. I told her if she needed more she could call me and I would get them.
Am I spoiling her, in a way yes, but her Mother said that it was fine because her time is taken up so much with the boys, but she is trying very hard to make time for her daughter as well.
And slowly we drove back to her home, stopping at the BIG Spirit Store in Hayward, and found some more things that were not in the local one. But eventually it was time to go home, I hated to part from her it was fun for the both of us. But one must be practical as well.
I did ask her parents if it would be alright for Coralline to come with me to see "Rear Window" on the Big Screen at a local theatre that was doing a retro movie night, it was middle of the week, once I gave the dates, it turned out that they would be in the area for an event the boys were in, so we made arrangements to have them drop her off at house and we'd go straight to the theatre and then we'd all meet back at the house later. "A Grown Up Movie!!" Coralline exclaimed, I told her that I would explain the movie if she had questions later, but it seems that she's been curious about Hitchcock films, so this would be dipping her toe into it. I always felt his films from the 40's and 50's were his best, so I'll be on the watch for those and see if she's interested.
Coming home the house seemed empty without her presence, even Sis felt it and Doyle, he said Belladonna had been mopping about all day not having Coralline to play with.
And now tonight, well it will be time to watch the premire of Bones and Sleepy Hollow, I think I'll record them in case Coralline doesn't get a chance to watch them at her house.

Of Hitchcock, "Blackmail" and chainsaws~~~~
Well Darklings,
My weekend has not gone quite the way I had originally planned, but so far it's been interesting.
Right now I'm taking a breather while my brother and sister in law take the "three stoogies" their sons, (that is the name my niece Coralline has given them" to go and get pizza and ice cream and other sundry goodies that will give them a sugar high.
Coralline, Belladonna and I are enjoying the brief moment of peace, blessed peace.
My wicked little niece has tempted me to go with a summer nail polish, and has been waiving "Wet and Wilds" mauvish lavendar "Bite the Bullet" in front of me and so I have promised to do my nails with that color for the summer. She loves her deck of zombie cards, but is going to hide her deck from her brothers for safe keeping.
She and Belladonna are playing a quiet game of "tug of war" near me as I type.
I thought that yesterday I would relax from the heat that we briefly had, today has been cool and now the foggish overcast has rolled in. My sister and Doyle were busy packing for their respective trips, when I received a phone call from one of my friends asking if I'd care to go with him to see a restored Hitchcock film "Blackmail", I had completely forgotten that this weekend was the Silent Film festival at the Castro Theater, Doyle and Sis said go, they would be completely impossible to deal with while packing.
Dressed in my film noir best and with a warm coat since the nights get chilly in San Francisco, Donald came by, picked me up as I air kissed my loved ones and over the bridge we went.
It was fasinating to see Hitchocks' film and see his genius flowering, the same theme of course, innocent person being both protected and threatened by two different people. The chase over well known landmarks, all so very satisfying and filmed in Germany's UFA studios before the Nazi's took over and destroyed all that creativity. Now with these 6 restored Hitchcock films from the British Film Institute I hope to see them eventually released to DVD. But of course it may take a while. For any Goth film noir buff these are a Must to see, espeically "The Lodger", and to add to one's collection.
But all that went out the window today as Brother Dear and his brood chainsawed the branch down to manageable size, he loaded half into his truck and I have the other half in the back going to be seasoned for winter. He also removed one other branch that appeared to be dead, no leaves on it so it was better to remove it than risk having that one fall as well.
The boys were giving him and their mother fits as they danced like evil imps around the flying chips, I was praying that no slivers would fly into their eyes or fingers be suddenly removed. It finally took their Mother's strong armed discipline (a resounding swat on their bottoms) to bring order to their intentional chaos. For safety sake I had Belladonna stay in her open kennel in the kitchen, the noise being too much for her.
The little devils finally became helpful with loading their Dad's truck and stack (quite carefully I might add) my wood in back. Then the phone call to the pizza place, pileling the boys Mom and Dad into van to get the food (my treat) Silence now reigns.
They were happy with the zombie playing cards and played a few hands of their idea of Zombie Old Maid, if you got the Queen of Spades left in your hands you became a Zombie and had to do the Zombie walk around the table and say "Bwaainnzzz" Coralline agreed with me, Boys do like gross stuff.
Coralline pleaded with her Mother if she could stay overnight with me and I take her home tomorrow, which turns out to be just fine, they were going to go to a friends tomorrow afternoon for a Father's Day bar-b-que, so if I got her there by 1 p.m. that would be fine.
So I'm going to treat Coralline and myself to Brunch tomorrow and tonight after the Horde leaves we will stay up and have hot coco and watch "King Kong Escapes" on Svengoolie and I'll paint my nails with "Bite the Bullet".
And now I hear the Barbarians returning.
